About Jake
I'm a multi-instrumentalist born in Denver, Colorado, and currently based in Boston, Massachusetts. When I was growing up, my parents listened to all sorts of music. While I have a special place in my heart for all things rock and metal, I've always been just as big a fan of pop, funk, and many more styles as well. Exposure to various musical styles has been one of the great takeaways from my time with private drum instructors in college.
When I'm not in a practice room, studio, or onstage, I'm often painting or watching classic horror films. I've always thought art is most exciting and entertaining when it is experienced across multiple styles and mediums.
My approach
As a performer, you have two objectives: communicate your message and connect with your audience. The point of live music is rarely just the songs; if someone wanted to hear the record, they would simply put it on at home. The true appeal of live music is when a creative takes the time to make the performance an experience. The best shows involve thorough planning: the performers are dressed accordingly, and most importantly, the music is well rehearsed enough that the artist does not need to focus on what they are playing. Then hone in on one thing and one thing only, giving the audience a night they will never forget.
The best musicians and artists to work with are the ones who put in the work and are ready to go, without you needing to be asked.
